Family Councils: “Small Schools” Instilling Values in Children

Family councils represent a unique space that supports the values of family and community, acting as “small schools” that contribute to raising new generations on strong foundations of values and principles. These councils emphasize the importance of strengthening social ties and teaching children authentic Emirati customs, preparing them to be positive individuals in society.

Strengthening Social Ties

Many citizens have affirmed that taking children to family councils and national social events is essential for enhancing their relationships with the community. Parents emphasize the importance of their children attending family events, noting that it provides valuable life experiences and teaches them Emirati customs that reinforce their identity.

Amir Al-Rumaithi, Head of the Services and Activities Department at the Senior Citizens Administration, pointed out that previous generations established values and customs by accompanying their families on social visits. He added that councils serve as a platform to teach Emirati “Sana’a,” helping to break the digital isolation that surrounds many children.

Contemporary Challenges

Some mothers, like Umm Abdul Karim, expressed the challenges they face in raising their children amidst the distractions of technology, voicing concerns over the aimless use of smart devices. She highlighted the importance of organizing events that promote the inclusion of children with disabilities in society and help develop their skills.

Rehab Ahmed, a concerned citizen, emphasizes the necessity of taking children to council events, explaining that it enhances the culture of councils and encourages families to invest their children’s time in activities that provide real benefits.

Investing in Social Intelligence

Studies indicate that participation in councils enhances the development of children’s personalities and strengthens their social skills. Families benefit from the experiences of senior citizens, reconnecting new generations with the values of their heritage. Fatima Al-Hamadi views councils as places of learning where children acquire proper behaviors, away from negative influences.

Al-Rumaithi believes that the primary responsibility lies with parents to teach their children positive behaviors in a manner that aligns with their daily activities, emphasizing the importance of diversifying educational methods in the digital age.

Integrated Community Initiatives

The “Generations in Councils” initiative is receiving increasing support from relevant authorities, aiming to enhance the presence of senior citizens at events and provide educational and cultural content for children. Tamima Mohammed Al-Naisir, a consultant for national identity programs, noted the role of family attendance in reinforcing children’s identity and values through interactive activities.

Family councils are considered the optimal environments for strengthening the identities of future generations. These activities aim to instill sound values and ensure the sustainability of love and understanding within the community, demonstrating how family and community collaboration can lead to a bright future for young children.
