Dubai Opens Bridge Connecting Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road
In a significant step towards enhancing transportation infrastructure in Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority has opened a new bridge connecting Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road. This bridge is part of the development project for the Trade Center Roundabout, aimed at improving vehicle traffic flow and enhancing mobility in the economic capital of the UAE.
Details of the New Bridge
The new bridge spans 1,000 meters and features two lanes, capable of accommodating around 3,000 vehicles per hour. This development will greatly enhance traffic flow, reducing travel time from six minutes to just one minute. Additionally, it will alleviate congestion at the Trade Center Roundabout, making it easier to move between vital areas.
Importance of the Project
Mattar Al Tayer, the Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at the authority, emphasized the project’s significance, stating: “The development of the Trade Center Roundabout is one of the most important major intersections in Dubai.” This bridge connects Sheikh Zayed Road with five key streets, facilitating urban traffic flow and positively impacting the experience of the city’s residents and visitors.
Response to Traffic Challenges
The authority aims, through the development of the Trade Center Roundabout, to achieve its vision of reducing traffic congestion. The new bridge is expected to significantly decrease average waiting times at the intersection from 12 minutes to 90 seconds. This will help enhance the flow of vehicles moving from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Thanyah Street, as well as improve traffic movement from the Future Road to the main streets in the area.
Community Benefits
This project is not just a bridge; it is a transportation solution that supports numerous commercial and residential areas in Dubai. More than half a million residents and visitors are expected to benefit from this bridge, including those in the Dubai World Trade Center and the Dubai International Financial Center. The project will also provide improved traffic services for residential areas such as Zabeel, Al Satwa, and Al Karama.
By implementing the development project for the Trade Center Roundabout, the Roads and Transport Authority demonstrates its strong commitment to enhancing the mobility experience in Dubai and improving the effectiveness of the city’s transport network.
