The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai is establishing a contract for the second phase of the Hessa Street development project, an important step aimed at modernizing and expanding the traffic infrastructure in the area. The project spans three kilometers, from the Al Khail Road intersection to the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road intersection. It also includes the development of three major intersections, improving road capacity and serving over 650,000 residents in ten residential and developmental areas.
Project Details
The second phase of the Hessa Street development project includes the construction of bridges totaling 8,835 meters in length and a tunnel measuring 480 meters, as well as the enhancement of entrances and exits for several roads. These improvements aim to increase capacity by 100%, rising from 4,000 vehicles per hour to 8,000 vehicles.
Project Benefits and Travel Time Expectations
These expansions significantly contribute to reducing travel time, from 24 minutes to just 5 minutes. It is expected that around 650,000 residents will benefit from this project, enhancing the quality of life in the surrounding areas.
Accelerated Work and Future Improvements
The RTA has commenced work on the first phase of the Hessa Street development, which includes bridges, intersections, and more, with the project set to open in April. In this context, the Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at the RTA, Mattar Al Tayer, stated that this phase is a continuation of the first phase, reflecting the authority’s commitment to improving traffic infrastructure in Dubai.
Strategies for Reducing Traffic Congestion
The Hessa Street development projects also include the implementation of bicycle and electric scooter lanes totaling 10.4 kilometers, aimed at promoting sustainable mobility in Dubai. These developments are designed to accommodate daily traffic, which is estimated at around half a million trips, highlighting the importance of this project in connecting residential and developmental areas.
These updates in the Hessa Street development project represent a strategic step towards improving the urban and traffic environment in Dubai, facilitating movement and increasing the efficiency of public roads overall.
