The launch of a new initiative aimed at supporting Emirati girls and reinforcing family and social values marks an important stride in promoting cultural heritage and modern identity. Known as “Majlis Ummi Humaida,” this initiative was introduced by Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, chairperson of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural and Educational Institutions, coinciding with the declaration of the Year of the Family. The focus of this initiative is to cultivate a sense of belonging and identity among Emirati girls while nurturing traditional social frameworks.
Innovative Programs for Cultural Empowerment
The initiative features innovative practical programs, such as “My Identity in My Clothing,” which is designed to foster national identity through the adoption of traditional Emirati attire as a symbol of pride and belonging. Additionally, the “Coffee of the House” project seeks to embody the essence of Emirati hospitality by offering workshops that teach girls traditional behaviors and the principles of generosity, integral to Emirati culture. Each program under this initiative has been meticulously crafted to enhance both the cognitive and behavioral aspects, reinforcing authentic practices of the Emirati identity.
A Tribute to Family Values
In her remarks, Sheikha Dr. Shamma highlighted the significant influence her mother, Sheikha Humaida bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, has had on her personal growth and academic achievements. She expressed that naming the council in her mother’s honor is a tribute to her legacy and an acknowledgment of the core values and heritage that she represents as a role model for Emirati mothers committed to nurturing strong, stable families. “This initiative reflects a balance between authenticity and modernity in shaping the Emirati woman’s character,” she noted.
Goals Aligned with National Aspirations
The initiative also aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, who emphasizes that the family serves as the first line of defense for cultural values and national identity. Sheikha Dr. Shamma emphasized that the primary aim of the initiative is to empower Emirati girls, preparing them to become cornerstones of the community and architects of future generations. This will be achieved through the development of leadership skills, self-awareness, knowledge of cultural heritage, and positive engagement with contemporary advancements.
Target Audience and Future Vision
Aimed specifically at young women aged 15 to 30, the initiative not only encourages leadership among Emirati youth but also serves to enhance their cultural and social awareness. Through various activities and workshops, the program seeks to enrich the lives of Emirati girls, fostering a sense of responsibility and pride in their heritage while equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in today’s dynamic world.
The “Majlis Ummi Humaida” initiative symbolizes a commitment to nurturing Emirati identity and values within the younger generations, ensuring that cultural legacies are preserved and celebrated in the context of modernity. This pioneering effort enhances the importance of family as a cornerstone of society, creating a strong foundation for diverse cultural growth and progression.
