Abu Dhabi Ports Enhances Collaboration in Nigerias Blue Economy

In a significant move towards enhancing bilateral relations, Abu Dhabi Ports is exploring collaborative opportunities in Nigeria’s maritime sector and blue economy. This initiative underscores the deepening partnership between the United Arab Emirates and Nigeria and aims to foster trade and logistical integration vital for the economic growth of both nations.

Following a high-level meeting with His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Abu Dhabi Ports announced plans to explore new avenues for collaboration with Nigeria’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Blue Economy. This step reflects the growing partnership between the UAE and Nigeria and supports commercial and logistical integration between the two. During the meeting, Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, the Managing Director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports, discussed ways to enhance strategic cooperation in shipping, maritime services, and logistics, contributing to sustainable economic growth and the development of Nigeria’s blue economy.

As part of this initiative, Abu Dhabi Ports signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Blue Economy. This agreement aims to explore investment and development opportunities in port services, logistics, and maritime infrastructure. It also addresses the need for digital trade solutions and considerations for economic and free zones, thereby improving supply chain efficiency and enhancing regional and international trade connectivity.

This memorandum highlights Nigeria’s strategic position as Africa’s largest economy and one of the continent’s key maritime gateways, supported by its extensive coastline and vital port assets. The increasing trade flow through Nigeria’s ports reinforces its significance in the region. Furthermore, this collaboration reaffirms Abu Dhabi Ports’s commitment to leveraging its global expertise to support the development of maritime and logistics infrastructure, enhancing Nigeria’s economic competitiveness and creating sustainable job opportunities.

This partnership aligns seamlessly with the comprehensive economic partnership agreement between the UAE and Nigeria, which serves as a supportive framework for growing trade and investment between the two countries. In 2024, trade between the nations reached $4.3 billion, a clear indication of the increasing momentum and promising future of their economic ties facilitated by Abu Dhabi Ports.
