Severe Rainfall Hits as Temperatures Plunge

Today and tomorrow, the primary wave of rainfall continues to impact the region as temperatures are expected to drop further. The National Center of Meteorology has reported that various areas have experienced significant rainfall, resulting from a shallow low-pressure system originating from the Red Sea combined with southeastern winds. Weather conditions might remain partially cloudy, with possible limited rain and a notable decrease in temperatures expected during the weekend.

Recent Rainfall Observations

The National Center of Meteorology closely monitors the weather situation, revealing through radar images that the main wave of rainfall affected most parts of the country on Thursday night and Friday morning. Rainfall intensity varied, with the highest recorded amounts being 127 mm at Al Ghail Station, 123 mm at Saqr Port, 116.6 mm at Jebel Jais, and 72 mm in Ras Al Khaimah. Meanwhile, temperatures have sharply decreased across the nation.

Weather Forecast for Today and Tomorrow

As for the weather today, conditions are expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy at times with the formation of cumulus clouds, leading to possible rain in certain coastal, northern, and eastern areas. Winds are projected to shift from northwestern to southwesterly, varying from moderate to strong, causing dust and sand that could reduce visibility. Wind speeds can reach between 15 to 30 km/h, potentially increasing to 50 km/h, while sea conditions may become rough in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

Outlook for Monday

Looking ahead to tomorrow, the weather is expected to remain generally partly cloudy with low clouds observed over the islands and some coastal and western regions, along with a chance of rain. Nighttime humidity is anticipated in some internal western areas. The winds will continue to be southeasterly to northwesterly, ranging from light to moderate, again stirring dust at times, with speeds between 10 to 25 km/h, potentially increasing to 35 km/h. The sea may experience rough to moderate wave conditions in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

Furthermore, Monday’s forecast shows continued partly cloudy to occasionally cloudy weather, with scattered clouds on islands and in some western areas. Conditions are expected to remain humid during the night and early morning on Tuesday for some internal western locations, with light to moderate easterly to southeasterly winds intensifying during the day, maintaining speeds from 10 to 20 km/h, and potentially rising to 35 km/h. The sea is likely to remain calm to moderately rough in the Arabian Gulf and light in the Sea of Oman.

As temperatures continue to drop, residents are reminded to adhere to safety measures and follow advice from the relevant authorities during this weather phase, ensuring a safe experience amidst ongoing changes in weather conditions.
