Peace Cannot Be Achieved Through Aggression, Nor Can a System Based on Confrontation or Exclusion Endure

Amidst growing global challenges, it is essential to consider the importance of fostering peace through dialogue and understanding rather than violence and conflict. “Peace cannot be achieved through aggression, nor can a system based on confrontation or exclusion endure” is a concept echoed in various diplomatic circles, as demonstrated during the second annual Helly Forum held in the UAE. This event refocused attention on the necessity of cooperation among nations and systems in a rapidly changing world.

Helly Forum: A Platform for Promoting Dialogue

The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research, in collaboration with the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy, concluded the second edition of the Helly Forum under the theme “Resetting the International Order: Trade, Technology, and Governance.” During this forum, Minister of State Lana Nusseibeh emphasized the importance of adopting a flexible approach by nations to ensure their sovereignty amid swift transformations. She stated, “Peace cannot be achieved through aggression, nor can a system based on confrontation or exclusion endure.”

The Future of Palestine and Its Impact on Regional Peace

Nusseibeh pointed out that the future of Palestine represents the core of any sustainable peace in the Middle East. She reiterated the UAE’s firm rejection of attempts to annex Palestinian territories, stressing that this matter is a “red line.” Participants warned of the challenges posed by non-state actors and their supporters, as instability in the region continues to rise.

Technology and Diplomacy: A Growing Relationship

In addition to geopolitical issues, the forum addressed the impact of technology on international relations. Nikolai Mladenov, the Director-General of the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy, remarked that technology has become a crucial element in reshaping the balance of power. He noted that discussions about artificial intelligence and innovation underscored the need for global cooperation to ensure the responsible use of these technologies.

The Need for New Legal Frameworks

During the forum, Dr. Narayanappa Janardhan emphasized the necessity of developing legal frameworks to uphold human values in the age of advanced technology. He mentioned that modern technologies such as artificial intelligence present new challenges to humanitarian laws, necessitating the creation of legal and ethical frameworks that reflect the responsible use of technology.

At the conclusion of the forum, there was a strong emphasis on the need for international cooperation to ensure that technology serves global stability and prosperity. “Peace cannot be achieved through aggression, nor can a system based on confrontation or exclusion endure” remains a fundamental principle in efforts to achieve a more balanced and inclusive world.

In this way, the Helly Forum continues to provide a strategic platform for dialogue and the exchange of insights, reinforcing the UAE’s role as an international diplomatic hub aiming to build a better future for all.
