Enhancing Logistics Sector to Exceed 200 Billion AED Contribution

In recent discussions centered on enhancing the economy of the United Arab Emirates, strong emphasis has been placed on boosting the logistics sector’s contribution to the national economy, aiming to exceed 200 billion dirhams within the next seven years. This ambitious target highlights a strategic alignment with the nation’s broader vision for 2031, which seeks to position the UAE among the world’s top three countries in logistics performance. The importance of advanced infrastructure and the adoption of digital solutions are pivotal in achieving these goals, marking a significant step in the evolution of the logistics landscape within the country.

Strategic Objectives of the UAE Logistics Council

During a recent meeting, His Excellency Suhail Mohamed Faris Al Mazrouei, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, affirmed that the council is dedicated to raising the contribution of the logistics sector to the national economy from approximately 136.7 billion dirhams in 2024 to more than 200 billion dirhams over the next seven years. He underscored that these targets align with the “We Are the UAE 2031” vision, intended to solidify the country’s position as a global leader in logistics performance.

Modernizing Infrastructure and Embracing Sustainability

Al Mazrouei noted that initiatives will focus on enhancing digital and green transformation within the transport and logistics sectors. “We aim to expand smart solutions and reduce carbon emissions, thereby achieving a balance between economic growth and environmental protection,” he stated, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to sustainable development. By fostering collaboration between federal and local stakeholders, the council is poised to propel the logistics sector toward a more efficient and sustainable future, addressing the ambitions of the UAE over the next fifty years.

Collaboration and Competitiveness

The logistics sector is a cornerstone of the national economy, contributing significantly to GDP, creating thousands of quality jobs, and attracting foreign investment. Al Mazrouei emphasized the vital role this sector plays in establishing the UAE as a global hub for trade and re-export. “In 2023, the UAE achieved a remarkable milestone by ranking seventh globally, showcasing significant investments in advanced infrastructure and modern road networks,” he pointed out, indicating that the UAE logistics sector is a primary engine for economic growth and competitiveness.

National Maritime Center and Future Partnerships

The establishment of the National Maritime Center signifies a key component in developing an integrated marine framework that supports national sustainability and innovation goals. This center will manage the national system for monitoring vessel movement, thereby enhancing the country’s role as a crucial maritime trade hub. It aims to improve maritime safety, streamline trade processes, and provide reliable information for decision-makers, thereby fortifying the UAE’s standing as a global maritime power.

Furthermore, the council is committed to fostering partnerships with the private sector, recognizing its essential role in the country’s development endeavors. Recent developments included a specialized presentation by the General Civil Aviation Authority on air cargo and its strategic importance in supporting economic growth and enhancing global competitiveness. The council’s ongoing efforts not only reflect a shared vision but also aim to nurture an environment where the logistics sector can thrive and adapt to future challenges.
