The Sharjah Book Authority has announced that 154 books have won its Translation Grant, selected from more than 2,098 applications submitted by publishers from around the world. The initiative is one of Sharjah’s most prominent efforts to support translation globally, and since its launch in 2011 it has supported 2,405 translated books for Arab and international libraries, backed by an annual allocation of $300,000 — of which $250,000 is dedicated to translating books from Arabic or into Arabic, and $50,000 to translation between other languages.
Strong demand and wider linguistic reach
Arabic books translated into other languages led the list of beneficiaries, with 76 titles translated into 20 foreign languages. They were followed by 31 English-language books translated into nine languages, and 18 Turkish books translated into seven languages, in addition to other titles from 53 languages translated into Arabic. The award value for each winning book is $4,000 for general-category books and $1,500 for children’s books, depending on the number of words in each title.
Notable growth on last year
Compared with 2025, when the authority approved 99 titles under the Translation Grant, this year’s round recorded marked growth with 154 approved books, an increase of 55 titles and a growth rate of nearly 56%. The figure points to the strength and quality of the submissions to the grant, as well as the growing interest in it, reflecting the grant’s commitment to recognising knowledge-based content and expanding its presence in Arab and international publishing markets.
Leadership comments on the grant’s role
Manصور
