The launch of the “Al-Taiir-1” satellite marks a significant milestone in the United Arab Emirates’ burgeoning space industry, representing the nation’s first commercial Earth observation satellite powered by artificial intelligence. This achievement further solidifies the UAE’s position as a global hub for the development, manufacture, and operation of advanced satellites.
Successful Launch from California
Al-Taiir-1 was successfully deployed into orbit during the “Transporter-18” mission, launched aboard a SpaceX rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. Following a successful separation from the launch vehicle, the satellite was confirmed to have entered its planned orbit, with initial signals indicating normal operational functionality and the commencement of its testing phase.
First of the Al-Taiir Constellation
As the first commercially developed satellite in the UAE, Al-Taiir-1 was integrated by Loft Orbital. This satellite is the initial entry in the Al-Taiir constellation, which will eventually consist of ten satellites, with plans for subsequent launches to occur through the upcoming year. Together, these satellites are expected to form a comprehensive Emirati commercial platform for Earth observation leveraging advanced AI technologies.
Government and Industry Commitment
Dr Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprises, and Chairman of the UAE Space Agency, praised the pivotal role of the private sector in building a robust national space industry capable of expansion. He congratulated the team at Orbit Works for their accomplishment.
Empowering Decision-Making
Dr Hamadallah Mohab, CEO of Orbit Works and Marlan Space, noted that Al-Taiir-1 heralds a new phase for customers to monitor the Earth effectively, allowing them to make informed decisions based on real-time data produced and processed in orbit.
