UAE and Nigeria Strengthen Ties in Tourism and Culture

The United Arab Emirates and Nigeria are exploring ways to enhance cooperation in tourism and creative industries, focusing on impactful partnerships that foster mutual growth. This strategic engagement between the two nations aims to exchange expertise and best practices in supporting tourism development and creative sectors.

During a recent meeting in Dubai, His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, and Her Excellency Hannatu Musa Musawa, Nigeria’s Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, discussed significant collaborative opportunities. They emphasized the importance of building strong economic ties in tourism and cultural industries as both nations adapt to emerging trends and demands in the global market.

His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq underscored the UAE’s growing commitment to enhancing its economic and investment relations with African countries. He noted, “The UAE is keen to support sustainable development pathways across the continent and contribute to building effective economic partnerships that drive growth and mutual prosperity.” This initiative aligns with broader efforts to encourage Emirati businesses to expand their reach into diverse African markets.

Nigeria is recognized as a promising investment destination in the tourism, hospitality, and infrastructure sectors. The increasing interest in African destinations and global trends in sustainable tourism position Nigeria as a vital partner for the UAE in bolstering tourism growth on the continent. The country boasts a rich tapestry of tourist attractions, making it one of Africa’s most appealing destinations.

During the meeting, the UAE’s “National Tourism Strategy 2031” was presented, highlighting its crucial role in ensuring the sector’s sustainability and competitiveness in the coming decade. Significant goals have been set to elevate the UAE as the leading global tourism identity, aiming to enhance the sector’s contribution to the national GDP to 450 billion dirhams, attract 100 billion dirhams in tourism investments, and welcome 40 million hotel guests.

The two parties also explored ways to leverage outcomes from the “UAE-Africa Tourism Investment Summit.” This collaboration intends to support mutual tourism investments and encourage diverse new projects in both the public and private sectors, contributing to economic growth and the development of essential tourism infrastructures, aligned with the strategic visions of both the UAE and Nigeria.

Efforts to facilitate communication between Emirati and Nigerian business communities were discussed, with a focus on discovering available tourism investment opportunities in both markets. Expanding economic partnerships and fostering joint investments aimed at enhancing tourism infrastructure will significantly support the sustainable growth of the tourism sector.

Additionally, the importance of collaborative opportunities in creative economy activities was highlighted, emphasizing their role in enriching the tourism sector. Enhancing cultural and artistic industries and promoting local arts and traditional crafts within the tourism narrative would further strengthen cultural identity and open new avenues for sustainable economic growth in both nations.
