In a step aimed at enhancing cooperation in investment and the development of medical industries, the Minister of Health reviewed investment opportunities and the development of medical industries in the country with Burjeel Holding. This meeting is part of Egypt’s efforts to support the healthcare sector and strengthen strategic partnerships with leading institutions in healthcare.
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, welcomed Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, founder and Chairman of Burjeel Holding, on Monday. Burjeel Holding is one of the largest companies operating in the healthcare sector in the Middle East and North Africa. The meeting took place at the Ministry‘s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, where they discussed ways to cooperate and investment opportunities in the Egyptian healthcare sector.
At the beginning of the meeting, the minister welcomed the visiting delegation, praising Burjeel’s leading role in providing advanced medical care. Dr. Abdel Ghaffar emphasized the Egyptian government’s commitment to creating an encouraging environment for investment, particularly in vital sectors, with a focus on healthcare, aimed at developing health services and enhancing international partnerships.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the meeting addressed strategic areas for joint cooperation. These included training medical staff, exchanging scientific and practical expertise, organizing specialized scientific conferences, and collaborating on continuous professional development programs within hospitals. He also noted that the meeting touched upon prospects for cooperation in localizing medical industries, including pharmaceuticals and serums, as well as the development of clinical research.
Abdel Ghaffar also pointed out that both sides discussed mechanisms for cooperation in cancer treatment, particularly stem cell transplantation, as Burjeel owns specialized institutes in the UAE, with plans to establish similar centers in Egypt, especially in Upper Egypt, to meet the demand for specialized health services there. Furthermore, discussions included collaboration in sports medicine and rehabilitation programs after injuries.
For his part, Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil expressed his gratitude to the minister for supporting investment opportunities in Egypt. He affirmed the group’s commitment to expanding its presence in the Middle East and North Africa through strategic partnerships. He mentioned that Burjeel’s goals closely align with national healthcare priorities and highlighted Egypt’s vision of becoming a regional center of excellence in oncology and stem cell transplantation.
Dr. Vayalil added that the group aims to raise standards of care and enhance local capabilities in advanced diagnostics and molecular medicine, considering international cooperation among healthcare systems essential to achieving the larger mission of improving access to complex healthcare.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Health and Population previously signed a cooperation agreement with Burjeel Holding to support cancer patients in Egypt, as part of a partnership aimed at providing modern treatment solutions that align with international medical standards.

From Burjeel Holding, attendees included Mr. Hamad Al Hosani, CEO of International Partnerships; Dr. Zain Al Abidin, Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Consultant at Burjeel Cancer Institute; Mr. Faiz Barami, Director of Relations; and Mr. Mohamed Sarfrouz, Director of the Chairman’s Office, along with several company leaders.
