In a significant move towards enhancing urban mobility, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has unveiled a series of traffic improvements aimed at increasing road efficiency and promoting seamless travel across the emirate. This initiative is part of RTA’s broader strategy to develop a robust and sustainable infrastructure, ultimately improving the overall experience for road users. By implementing these upgrades, the RTA endeavors to achieve its objectives for a more integrated transport network that caters to Dubai’s growing population and urban sprawl.
Traffic Expansion Initiatives
The recent enhancements by RTA include the expansion of Sheikh Rashid Road at its intersection with Sheikh Khalifa Road. This upgrade features an expanded lane specifically for right turns, designed to boost capacity at this busy junction, thereby reducing waiting times and improving traffic flow during peak hours.
New Traffic Improvements
According to a report released on RTA’s digital platform, these traffic improvements also include the opening of a dedicated U-turn on Marrakech Street. This addition aims to facilitate vehicle movement and improve connectivity between surrounding roads while minimizing unnecessary turns. Moreover, necessary adjustments have been completed at the intersection of Oman Street and Damascus Street, enhancing safety and increasing traffic efficiency in the area.
December’s Traffic Upgrades
In December, the RTA undertook a series of traffic projects that encompassed the establishment of a storage lane for right turns for vehicles coming from Jumeirah heading towards Jumeirah Street. Additionally, a project was implemented to alter the right-turning traffic from Al Amrady Street to Al Khawaneej Street from a mandatory stop to a free-flowing movement. RTA also constructed a pedestrian crossing regulated by traffic signals in the labor accommodation area (Snapour) and executed developmental works at the intersection of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street leading to Sayoura Street and The Beach area.
Ongoing Efforts for Traffic Efficiency
The RTA provided a dedicated right-turn storage lane from Sheikh Rashid Road towards Sheikh Khalifa Road while simultaneously conducting maintenance and surface improvements on Sheikh Khalifa Road. A separate U-turn was also created at Marrakech Street. Furthermore, traffic enhancements were made on Service Road No. 11, which runs parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road, along with comprehensive improvements at the intersection of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Manama Street.
These improvements are part of a comprehensive plan to develop Dubai’s road network, grounded in precise traffic studies that aim to align with the rapid population growth and urban development. This strategy not only seeks to optimize daily travel times but also prioritizes the safety of all road users, including drivers and pedestrians. The RTA remains committed to innovating and implementing traffic solutions that enhance quality of life by providing safer and more streamlined mobility for everyone, in line with the vision of making Dubai one of the world’s leading cities in infrastructure efficiency and mobility quality.
