Dubai Targets 55 Percent Eco-Friendly Vehicles by 2030

In a significant move towards environmental sustainability, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has successfully transformed 55% of its fleet of private vehicles used by employees into eco-friendly options. This initiative, comprising 260 green vehicles, marks a major step in the RTA’s commitment to enhancing environmental sustainability and improving transportation efficiency in the emirate. As Dubai strives to become a leader in sustainable transport, these efforts align with the broader goals of the Dubai energy strategy.

Commitment to Sustainable Transportation

The recent transition represents the RTA’s ongoing dedication to implementing the directives outlined by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy. The council advocates for increasing the number of hybrid and electric vehicles within the government sector, further encouraging governmental bodies to adopt eco-friendly vehicles. With this achievement, the RTA has surpassed the 30% target set for 2030.

Leadership Vision

Fatima Al Mandous, Director of Administrative Services at the RTA, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “The RTA reaffirms its strategic commitment to reducing carbon emissions and enhancing environmental sustainability, in line with Dubai and the UAE’s vision for transitioning to a green economy.” This initiative underscores the RTA’s focus on fostering sustainable transportation and promoting the adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles within both public and private fleets in Dubai.

Pathway to Zero Emissions

Al Mandous added, “This transformation supports our achievements in moving towards net zero emissions by 2050, guided by three core areas: public transport, facilities management, and waste management.” The RTA continues its efforts through a series of measures aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency in vehicle fleet management. This includes updating vehicle tracking systems and employing modern techniques in the maintenance and operation of hybrid vehicles.

Long-Term Environmental Goals

Furthermore, the RTA has established a long-term strategy aimed at increasing the number of eco-friendly vehicles by 2030, contributing to improved air quality and supporting Dubai’s vision of becoming a sustainable city. The authority also encourages its employees to utilize hybrid vehicles and raises awareness about the importance of reducing environmental impacts. Educational programs focused on the efficient and optimal use of hybrid vehicles are also part of this initiative.

The commitment to transforming 55% of Dubai’s private vehicles into environmentally friendly options demonstrates not just a strategic initiative by the RTA, but also a broader commitment to a sustainable future for the city. Such actions are essential for advancing Dubai’s narrative as a center for innovation and sustainability.
