Alserkal Avenue Launches Unique Artistic Experience

In the vibrant culinary landscape of Dubai, “Window at Alserkal Avenue” introduces a fiery bistro that promises warmth and exquisite flavors. This new gem, nestled within the artsy enclave of Alserkal Avenue, offers a cozy retreat for food enthusiasts seeking a blend of comfort food and an inviting atmosphere. Window is not just another eatery; it aims to become a beloved local spot that provides solace and enjoyment amid the bustling world outside.

The Spot

Great neighborhood restaurants possess a unique magic, serving as sanctuaries during uncertain times. They envelop you in an atmosphere that radiates warmth, delectable cuisine, and the reassuring feeling that everything will be just fine. Window, the latest venture by Fyte Hospitality—the team behind the popular Kokoro—strives to embody this essence. This snug bistro features a 32-seat layout, operating on a walk-in basis, centered around a diner-style counter that overlooks an open kitchen where a lively pizza oven, Josper grill, and glowing coals create an inviting ambiance. While the counter can get a bit toasty, this is part of the allure; Window is a restaurant that thrives on fire and comfort.

The Food

At the helm of the kitchen is Argentine chef Gonzalo Platero, who appears entirely in his element beside the flickering flames. Previously, he directed the renowned Fyre pop-up at Ketura Reserve and has dazzled guests at Cucina Del Sul’s desert cookouts, showcasing his innate affinity for cooking over open fire. The menu at Window is robust and immediately enticing. A cheese and spicy honey flatbread emerges from the oven, perfectly blistered, indulgently molten, and gently spicy. A wood-fired tomato salad offers stunning simplicity, with flames accentuating the inherent sweetness of the fruit.

The burger—a meticulously constructed 150g formation topped with Monterey Jack cheese, charred relish, and a soft bun—delivers a savory, juicy experience, complemented by top-tier homemade fries. Steaks are expertly kissed by fire, while a sweet, smoky Korean sweet potato dish is so delightful that we find ourselves ordering it a second time. To wrap up the meal, we opt for a coffee flan, a dish that the chef’s mother might consider blasphemous, but its silky texture is nothing short of magnificent.

The Service

The service at Window mirrors the hospitality familiar at Kokoro, combining warmth with a touch of cheekiness. The staff clearly knows their craft and, importantly, seems to relish every moment spent serving guests, enhancing the inviting atmosphere of the bistro.

Verdict

While initially surprised by the enthusiasm of a diner next to us, who had visited Window four times in just six days, we found by the end of our meal that such fervor was entirely justified.
