Sharjah Authority Enforces New Regulations for Health Professions

The Executive Council of Sharjah is taking significant steps to regulate health activities and professions within the emirate. Under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council, a recent meeting addressed various initiatives aimed at enhancing the healthcare landscape. This article discusses the council’s latest measures, particularly the new regulations governing health professions, which aim to ensure quality and transparency in health services.

Meeting Highlights and Historical Achievements

During the meeting held at the Ruler’s Office, the Executive Council began by extending congratulations to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for the inclusion of “Al-Fayah” in the World Heritage List of Sierra Leone. This achievement not only reflects Sharjah’s rich historical and archaeological significance but also showcases the resilience of humanity in adapting through various epochs.

Support for Housing Initiatives

The council also commended the decisions made by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah to approve a new batch of housing support for critical cases within the emirate. With a budget of 335 million dirhams, this initiative exemplifies the ruler’s commitment to ensuring a high quality of life for families and enhancing their stability.

New Regulations on Health Professions

One of the pivotal resolutions passed during the meeting concerned the regulation of health activities and professions in Sharjah. This decision applies to both local health establishments governed by the emirate and private health facilities within the free zones. However, it does not extend to health establishments affiliated with federal government entities operating in the emirate.

The primary goal of this decision is to create a comprehensive system for health regulation. This includes enhancing the services for health establishment licenses by the Sharjah Health Authority and overseeing the licensing of healthcare professionals. Additionally, it aims to ensure the quality of health services provided to the public.

Establishing Clear Governance Standards

The Executive Council’s resolution is also designed to promote good governance by reinforcing principles of transparency, fairness, and legal accountability in the healthcare sector across the emirate. Moreover, it lays down the legal foundations necessary for practicing health professions, thus ensuring the delivery of optimal health services to individuals.

The decision outlines the legal provisions related to the competencies of the Sharjah Health Authority, including medical liability, practices, and complaints committees. It also specifies the regulatory frameworks for operating health activities and professions, detailing the conditions for issuing health establishment permits and professional health licenses, alongside administrative penalties, fees, and enforcement measures.
