Tragic Farewell: Dubai Mourns Loss of Sudanese Mother During Twin Birth

Grief enveloped the family and friends of Sudanese national Marwa Ahmed Al-Amin Bakheet, 36, who tragically passed away due to sudden health complications during the delivery of her twins, Fahd and Fahdah, in Dubai. After a 12-year wait for motherhood, Marwa’s journey came to a heartbreaking end just as her dreams were coming to fruition.

Unexpected Complications During Childbirth

Marwa entered a Caesarean section after what her sister described as an otherwise normal pregnancy. There were no apparent health issues leading up to the birth, and she was able to hold her first baby shortly after delivery. However, tragedy struck during the birth of her second child when she experienced sudden complications, including blood clots in her lungs and heart. Despite repeated efforts by medical teams to resuscitate her, they were unable to save her life.

A Family’s Heartbreak

Her sister confirmed that the twins, Fahd and Fahdah, are healthy, turning the joyous moment of their arrival into a profound family tragedy with the loss of their mother. In a poignant display of solidarity, Marwa’s funeral took place at Al-Qusais Cemetery in Dubai, witnessing a significant turnout of mourners. The UAE’s “Funerals of the Emirates” issued a call for participation, encouraging the community to serve as her ‘family and brothers’ in the absence of close relatives in the country, aside from her husband.

Community Support and Remembrance

The mosque at the cemetery was filled with attendees who came to pay their respects and perform the funeral prayer. As Marwa’s body was laid to rest, mourners wrapped around her husband to offer their condolences during what was undoubtedly one of the hardest moments of his life, as he welcomed his newborns while bidding farewell to his beloved wife.

Marwa’s Legacy

Marwa married approximately 12 years ago and had longed to achieve her dream of motherhood, finally conceiving twins. According to her sister, she shouldered a significant portion of the family responsibilities, particularly after the death of their parents due to cancer, becoming a vital support system for her siblings. Marwa had spent most of her life in the UAE, having moved there at the age of one, and received her education in Dubai from kindergarten through to high school before joining Dubai Police.

A Farewell to a Cherished Soul

During the funeral, colleagues and friends reminisced about Marwa, describing her as cheerful, calm, and kind-hearted, and noting her popularity among her peers. Notably, the attendance included individuals who did not know her personally, responding to the call for community empathy. The scenes of carrying her coffin, communal prayers, and standing in support of her husband were striking representations of compassion and solidarity present at the service.

Marwa’s family expressed their surprise at the outpouring of support and prayers surrounding her untimely death, both during the funeral and across social media platforms, a testament to the love she cultivated in her life. Although she departed this world before witnessing her twins together, she left behind a luminous legacy, two infants at the beginning of their journey, and cherished memories that continue to resonate with her colleagues and friends. Her family takes solace in their faith, praying for her mercy and forgiveness, while wishing for the health and well-being of her children.
