In an ambitious move to foster the next generation of scientific minds, the Centre for a Quarter Century in Science and Technology, part of the Quarter Century Foundation for Leadership and Innovation, has announced the launch of the second edition of its “Scientific Residency” programme. Under the theme “Research with Impact,” this initiative offers students from Grades 9 to 12 across the United Arab Emirates a unique three-month research journey aimed at nurturing their potential and enriching the national scientific output.
A Professional Methodology
The programme is structured around a progressive and professional methodology that consists of multiple stages. It will kick off on 19 September with the foundational phase, “The Basics of Scientific Research,” which runs until 19 December 2026. During this period, participants will gain insights into the fundamentals of scientific research, including literature review, academic writing, research ethics, and culminate in the development of a research proposal to be presented before a panel of experts.
Successful participants will then transition to the “Research Practice” phase, where they will engage in hands-on experiments, data collection, and analysis under the guidance of academic mentors. Following this, they will advance to “Advanced Scientific Research,” which focuses on enhancing their projects to meet scientific standards and preparing for national and international participation along with scientific publication. The standout projects will proceed to the “Research with Impact” phase, providing opportunities to develop practical solutions and explore intellectual property and patent avenues.
A Dynamic Training Environment
The experience is further enriched by a training environment that surpasses traditional norms, designed to harness and develop the scientific passions of the participating students. The programme encompasses diverse fields, including technology and digital transformation, environmental sciences and sustainability, engineering and technical innovations, biology, chemistry, physics, botany, and microbiology, as well as smart infrastructure and sustainable development. Participants will have access to specialised laboratories within the UAE and beyond, attend inspiring field visits, and engage in direct mentoring sessions with thought leaders and academic partners.
Continuing the Journey
This second edition of the “Scientific Residency” builds upon the successes of the inaugural version, which resulted in the publication of a scientific paper in leading academic journals and the submission of 11 research papers to various scientific conferences, four of which have been accepted for presentation so far. This reflects the programme’s effectiveness in guiding students from a budding interest in science to active participation in scientific research.
