Abu Dhabi Culture and Tourism: Key Partner for 2026 Sports Summer

On 28th July 2026, the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism announced its collaborative role as a strategic cultural partner for the fifth edition of Abu Dhabi Summer Sports 2026. This significant event represents the largest indoor summer sports platform in the UAE, set to run until 23rd August 2026 at the ADNEC Abu Dhabi. This partnership not only highlights sports but also the integration of intangible cultural heritage practices, mirroring a broader governmental initiative aimed at maintaining community engagement throughout the summer.

Cultural Pavilion and Traditional Activities

The Department is establishing a dedicated cultural pavilion in Abu Dhabi, focused on showcasing traditional cultural experiences. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities including traditional games, handicraft practices, Emirati coffee workshops, and other cultural events alongside the sports activities offered at the festival.

Appealing to All Ages

The planned events are specifically designed to attract students, families, and community members of all ages, ensuring the authentic Emirati identity remains central to the summer programme. Activities within the cultural framework are diverse and interactive, promoting practices that embody the nation’s rich heritage.

Highlighting Key Cultural Programs

The cultural initiatives during the Abu Dhabi Summer Sports 2026 encompass a broad spectrum of interactive activities focusing on intangible cultural heritage. Among the core offerings are traditional games tournaments, handicraft workshops, and educational initiatives aimed at both children and families. Notably, the “Guardians of Heritage” youth initiative seeks to engage younger generations in heritage preservation.

Experiences at the Coffee House

The Emirati coffee experience will play a pivotal role, showcasing the importance of this tradition as part of the UAE’s cultural identity. Visitors are invited to participate in two distinctive experiences: the Emirati coffee rituals and interactive workshops. The coffee preparation ceremonies will guide attendees through the stages of making coffee, the etiquette of serving it, and the traditional tools involved, enriched by authentic stories and values.

Engaging Workshops and Activities

Workshops like “Little Maker” cater specifically to children and students, while “Coffee Maker” workshops are tailored for adults. Traditional Emirati games will also be featured, offering a mix of light physical play for young children alongside more dynamic activities for older participants and families. Additionally, expert-led handicraft workshops will enable hands-on experiences in creating traditional Emirati crafts, including weaving, embroidery, and pottery.

Creative and Artistic Initiatives

The cultural experience will be further enhanced by artistic events and workshops such as the Art Studio, Children’s Arts Centre, open painting sessions, calligraphy house, and programmes at Al Qattara Arts Centre in Al Ain. These interdisciplinary creative workshops aim to develop the participants’ skills and deepen their appreciation of the arts.

This collaborative effort by the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism not only fosters a vibrant atmosphere for sports and culture but also underscores the commitment to preserving and celebrating Emirati heritage through engaging and educational experiences during the bustling summer period.
