Sharjah Transportation: Expansion of the “On-Demand Bus” Service to Enhance Smart Mobility and Support Family Year Objectives
In its efforts to improve quality of life and promote smart mobility, the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority has announced the expansion of the “On-Demand Bus” service. Launched in June 2025, this service aims to provide a flexible and safe transportation solution in line with the objectives of “Family Year,” facilitating the movement of citizens and residents between various areas.
Service Improvements and Operational Results
Since its launch, the “On-Demand Bus” service has successfully executed approximately 2,664 trips, serving 2,758 passengers by the end of March 2026. Reports indicate a 24% increase in user numbers during the first quarter of the year, reflecting growing demand for the service and trust among users. This service is managed through the smart app “Bus On Demand Sharjah,” allowing users to easily book their rides and track the bus in real-time, enhancing operational efficiency.
Geographic Expansion and Service Destinations
The “On-Demand Bus” service currently covers the Muwaileh Commercial and Al Jada areas, with the service area expanded to include university cities, Al Jareena, and Al Nuf, facilitating travel between vital regions. This service targets all segments of the community, including employees and students, with a unified fare of 8 dirhams and a 25% discount for accompanying passengers. This enhances the viability of the service as a daily transportation option.
Authority’s Future Directions
The Authority’s Chairman, Engineer Youssef Khamis Al Othmani, confirmed that the expansion of the “On-Demand Bus” service marks a significant step toward developing an intelligent and sustainable public transport system. He noted that this service meets the daily needs of families, contributing to enhanced community connectivity. Al Othmani also emphasized the Authority’s commitment to adopting modern technologies that improve system efficiency and provide a safe and comfortable transportation experience.

Abdulaziz Mohammed Rashid Al Jarwan, Director of Transportation Affairs at the Authority, explained that the “On-Demand Bus” service offers an innovative solution to enhance the integration of transportation modes in the emirate. This service assists users in reaching areas not covered by traditional bus routes and facilitates their transfer to public transport stations. Al Jarwan highlighted the importance of developing services that cater to family needs, including access to educational institutions and workplaces.
