The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority has initiated a significant development project for both عمران بن تريم and أحمد بن حديد squares. This project includes necessary traffic diversions on Sheikh Khalid bin Khalid Al Qasimi Street, accompanied by partial closures of the two squares. This endeavor aligns with the authority’s strategic plans aimed at enhancing the emirate’s public spaces, implementing integrated solutions to match the distinct nature of various areas, and ultimately reducing traffic congestion. The initiative reflects Sharjah’s vision of providing safe and smooth roadways.
Strategic Developments in Sharjah
This project is part of a broader series of developmental initiatives undertaken by the Roads and Transport Authority, bolstered by the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. The enhancements aim to apply top-tier traffic flow standards across the emirate’s roadways while addressing the urgent needs to improve infrastructure efficiency—contributing positively to Sharjah’s local and global economic, investment, and tourism status.
Traffic Light Installations
Eng. Youssef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, reiterated the continuation of development plans, which encompass improvements to Sheikh Khalid bin Khalid Al Qasimi Street, extending along Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi Street. Most squares along this stretch have been upgraded to signal-controlled intersections. The development of عمران بن تريم and أحمد بن حديد squares into signalized intersections is expected to ensure seamless traffic flow along this major thoroughfare, extending from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street to Al Orouba Street, as guided by the directives of the Ruler of Sharjah regarding ongoing improvements to the region’s infrastructure.
Improvements to عمران بن تريم Square
The works at عمران بن تريم Square, nestled among four residential neighborhoods—Al Ramtha, Al Qouz, Al Suwaihat, and Al Ramqia—include the complete removal and reconstruction of the square and its access roads in all directions. This entails a one-kilometer upgrade along Sheikh Khalid bin Khalid Al Qasimi Street and 0.8 kilometers on Abdullah Salem Al Sabah Street. These modifications aim to enhance the intersection’s capacity and optimize traffic distribution, with road expansions allowing for three lanes in the same direction, in addition to left-turn lanes and space for U-turn movements.
Developments in أحمد بن حديد Square
Similarly, the redesign of أحمد بن حديد Square, surrounded by four residential areas—Al Suwaihat, Al Ramqia, Al Mowafja, and Al Yash—will also involve the removal and reconstruction of the square and the roads leading to it in all directions. This development includes a 1.2-kilometer upgrade along Sheikh Khalid bin Khalid Al Qasimi Street and 0.8 kilometers on Sabah Salem Al Sabah Street. The goal here is to increase the intersection’s capacity and optimize traffic distribution effectively. The project will also involve modifications to service lines and related developmental services, ensuring a comprehensive upgrade to the area’s infrastructure.
