1860 Electric Vehicle Charging Points in Dubai
Dubai has demonstrated its strong commitment to transitioning towards sustainable transportation systems by providing 1860 electric vehicle charging points. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced the expansion of the “Green Charger” network, making it easier for drivers to charge their electric vehicles and promoting the use of clean technology in the city. This article discusses the details of this significant expansion and its impact on the future of mobility and sustainable energy in Dubai.
Expansion of the Charging Network
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, reported that the “Green Charger” network has expanded to include over 1860 electric vehicle charging points across Dubai. These stations are licensed by DEWA in collaboration with entities from both the public and private sectors. By mid-January 2026, the initiative had registered 23,600 users, with DEWA providing over 55,200 megawatt-hours of electricity since its launch in 2014, enabling electric vehicles to travel more than 276 million kilometers.
Strategic Vision for Green Mobility
These efforts reflect the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aimed at enhancing Dubai’s position as a leading city in the transition to a green economy. Al Tayer noted that the expansion of 1860 electric vehicle charging points supports the UAE’s Climate Neutrality 2050 strategy and Dubai’s Green Mobility 2030 vision. This strategy aims to promote eco-friendly transportation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, making the city more prepared for the future.
Types of Charging Stations
DEWA offers four types of “Green Charger” stations: ultra-fast charging, fast charging, public chargers, and wall chargers. Users can find the locations of these stations throughout Dubai via DEWA’s website or its smart app, as well as through 14 other digital platforms. This accessibility makes the charging experience easy and convenient for users.
Registration and Service Usage
Users can create a “Green Charger” account through the website www.dewa.gov.ae, the DEWA smart app, or the interactive voice response system at the customer service center. Users can utilize the charging stations within one hour of registering their vehicle, in addition to a “visitor” feature that allows all users to benefit from the service.
Undoubtedly, the 1860 electric vehicle charging points in Dubai stand out as an essential part of the city’s strategy toward achieving sustainability, reflecting its aspirations to create a clean and environmentally friendly environment. This initiative is not only a positive step toward reducing carbon emissions but also aligns with a forward-looking vision centered around technology and innovation in transportation.
