In the vibrant landscape of the UAE, the remarkable endeavors of youth are reviving maritime heritage through innovative projects. One standout example is Jaber Ahmed Al Qubaisi, a pioneer in local boat manufacturing, who skillfully intertwines traditional maritime practices with modern technology. His efforts not only enrich the maritime sector but also bolster the national economy, aligning with the UAE’s vision for sustainable development and economic diversification, showcasing how youthful creativity is reshaping the future.
The Influence of Maritime Heritage
Jaber Al Qubaisi’s connection to the sea runs deep, nurtured within a family that has a longstanding passion for marine life. Growing up along the shores of Al Dhafra, he and his friends indulged in fishing, diving, and camping activities. For Al Qubaisi, the sea was more than just a source of leisure; it became a profound inspiration shaping his identity and aspirations. This maritime environment instilled in him a love for adventure and a pioneering spirit, ultimately paving the way for his entry into boat manufacturing.
The Genesis of the Project
Reflecting on the inception of his project, Al Qubaisi shared, “My relationship with the sea was a great motivator, but it wasn’t the only reason.” The project began over five years ago, as he and his partners focused on providing engineering solutions to manufacturers through advanced finite element analysis. This venture evolved into a fully integrated boat manufacturing plant, combining technical expertise with a profound passion for maritime craftsmanship. One major challenge he faced was building trust with the local market. “We had to convince people that we could deliver a locally made boat with world-class specifications,” he noted. Understanding that quality is something one can witness firsthand, the team dedicated themselves to developing products that could excel in maritime conditions.
Utilizing Simulation Technologies
Al Qubaisi emphasizes that his fishing experience has been invaluable in recognizing user needs. “I know exactly what specifications a fisherman requires in a boat; this understanding has guided me in designing vessels that meet users’ expectations in terms of performance, comfort, and durability.” His boats incorporate Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation technologies and feature a stepped hull design that reduces water resistance and improves fuel efficiency, making them suitable for various recreational and commercial uses. The use of water-resistant vinyl ester, vacuum infusion techniques, and hand-cast hulls contribute to the boats’ high durability and extended lifespan. Recently, the factory has begun exporting boats to clients in the Gulf region and the United States, including the opening of a new branch in Florida, marking a significant Emirati achievement in global manufacturing and exporting.
Empowering Future Generations
Jaber Al Qubaisi encourages young entrepreneurs, stating, “Start with your passion and be ready to develop it into a real project.” He praises the extensive support provided by the UAE to entrepreneurs in the manufacturing sector. Looking ahead, the factory plans to expand its product lines to include electric boats and open a permanent showroom abroad, reinforcing the international presence of Emirati products in the maritime industry. Through such initiatives, the essence of youthful creativity in reviving maritime heritage is not only preserved but also celebrated as it transforms into a thriving business identity.
