8,152 Violations for Delivery Motorcycle Riders on Fast Lanes
The Dubai Police issued 8,152 violations to delivery motorcycle riders who violated the ban on riding motorcycles in fast lanes. These measures aim to enhance road safety and reduce accidents by regulating the use of motorcycles in urban areas, which often experience heavy traffic.
Details of the Decision and Violations
Since the implementation of the decision at the beginning of this month, 8,152 violations have been recorded. This decision strictly prohibits the use of delivery motorcycles in fast lanes, particularly in the far-left lane on roads with five or more lanes, as well as on roads with three or four lanes. However, there are no restrictions on riding these motorcycles on roads with two lanes or fewer.
The Importance of the Decision and Its Impact on Safety
Brigadier Jumaa Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, emphasized that the data collected during the initial days of the decision highlights the challenges associated with riding motorcycles in a highway environment. Motorcycles, especially those used for delivery services, expose their riders to high risks due to the lack of adequate protection and the high speeds that make it difficult to control and avoid sudden hazards.
Penalties and Measures Taken
Penalties for violating riders range from a fine of 500 AED for the first offense, increasing to 700 AED for repeated violations. After the third offense, the professional license may be suspended. Additionally, there are fines for riders who exceed speeds of 100 km/h, ranging from 200 to 400 AED depending on the frequency of the violation.
A Call for Adherence to Safety Rules
Brigadier Jumaa Bin Suwaidan urged motorcycle riders to fully comply with traffic regulations. Riders should avoid driving on highways under any circumstances and adhere to the speed limits set for internal roads. It is also recommended to wear helmets and protective clothing and to ensure the motorcycle is ready for use by regularly checking brakes and tires.
Motorcycles are an essential part of the city’s transportation system, which requires riders to be more committed to safety rules. It is important to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and to follow designated bike lanes.
