A Historic Gathering in Dubai

The congress, hosted by the UAE at the Dubai World Trade Center, runs until September 19. It is co-organized by the Universal Postal Union and 7X, the official representation of the UAE’s membership in the union. The event features an exhibition where Sheikh Ahmed visited the UAE pavilion, exploring a postal museum that chronicles the nation’s history through handwritten correspondence and stamps to modern smart postal systems. The pavilion also showcases innovative technologies from logistics providers and e-commerce companies, along with a collection for stamp enthusiasts.

Commitment to a High-Quality Postal System

During his visit, Sheikh Ahmed received insights into the pavilion’s activities throughout the congress. A series of agreements and memorandums of understanding between public and private entities will be signed at the event, along with various additional activities. Notably, Sheikh Ahmed signed the inaugural series of official stamps issued to commemorate the UAE’s hosting of the congress, symbolizing the country’s status as a global leader in postal and logistics services. This initiative exemplifies its commitment to digital transformation by leveraging the latest technologies and enabling e-commerce solutions.

Agenda and Global Participation

The congress kicked off with a session led by UPU Honorary President and Chairman of 7X, Badr Sulaiman Al-Olama. The presence of over 2,200 officials, attending both in-person and digitally, demonstrates international interest and the UAE’s efficient digital infrastructure capable of handling world-class events. An agenda was adopted along with the establishment of specialized committees to commence detailed discussions on current topics, including global strategies and operational projects.

Fostering Shared Visions in Postal Services

Additionally, a summit for global postal leaders took place, uniting ministers and directors from postal institutions and logistics leaders to discuss and formulate shared visions for the future of postal services. Badr Sulaiman Al-Olama stated, “The 28th Postal Congress is a perfect opportunity to shape the future of the postal system and ensure its evolution in line with the changing times by uniting efforts and enhancing partnerships.” He reiterated the UAE’s commitment to collaborate with partners in member states to adopt decisions that accelerate digital transformation and integration in logistics.

Looking Ahead: Strategy and Innovations

The conference will conclude with the adoption of the new UPU strategy for 2026-2029, named the “Dubai Strategy,” recognizing the emirate’s hosting of the event. This strategy includes enhancing service quality, accelerating digital transformation, and supporting sustainability in the sector. Discussions are set to produce recommendations regarding postal product updates and operational integration among postal operators. The goals also include enhanced financial integration through postal financial services and a commitment to clean energy initiatives.

Attendees aim to ensure that decisions made during the conference improve operational efficiency and transform innovations into sustainable systems that adapt to evolving demands. This commitment from the UAE underscores its role as a reliable partner in advancing global postal and logistics systems by investing in knowledge and advanced technologies for a more prosperous and sustainable future.

Founded in 1874, the Universal Postal Union is a specialized UN agency responsible for regulating the postal sector.
