In a pivotal discussion surrounding sustainable energy, Deputy Evelyn Matté has emphasized that localizing the manufacture of solar energy components in Egypt is no longer a mere option but a national and strategic necessity. With a growing focus on boosting local manufacturing while reducing dependency on imports, this initiative aims to bolster the national economy and conserve foreign currency. In light of these developments, the push for the localization of solar energy parts is gaining momentum, highlighting its essential role in Egypt’s energy landscape.
Matté stated that Egypt possesses the human resources and technical expertise necessary to strongly enter the field of manufacturing solar energy components, especially given the existing experience in engineering and electrical industries. This opens the door to establishing a local industrial base capable of meeting domestic market needs and exporting to regional markets.
The committee member added that the state, through its ambitious strategy for new and renewable energy, aims to increase the contribution of clean energy to Egypt’s energy mix. This necessitates the ability to locally manufacture the essential components of these stations, such as solar panels, inverters, and control devices, rather than relying on expensive imports.
Matté stressed that localizing solar energy manufacturing will create thousands of job opportunities for youth, enhance the transfer and localization of modern technology, and attract foreign direct investments to partner with the local sector in establishing new factories. She noted that this direction aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which aims to maximize the local component’s share in various strategic industries.
The deputy called on the government to prepare a clear roadmap that includes support for national companies operating in this field, as well as providing investment and legislative incentives to encourage the private sector to enter partnerships for manufacturing solar energy components. She pointed out that Egypt, with its geographic location and sunny climate year-round, is well-positioned to become a regional hub for renewable energy and its industries.
Matté concluded her statements by reaffirming that supporting this industry represents one of the most important pillars of Egypt’s economic national security, as it reduces pressure on the state’s public budget, enhances the competitiveness of national industries in the face of global challenges, and positions Egypt as a leader in the field of clean energy in the region.
